PLN Reflection

I think that the plns don’t really teach us anything about writing they just teach us about the world around us. The only thing that is hard for me about the plns is to remember to do them. The Friday presentations are good for me because they help me think about what other people have to say but I don’t think that we need to write about them after we discuss them. When I don’t do the plns I either don’t know we need to do one or I just forget to. I think that next semester we should have only one pln a week and we should only present one so we have more time to get thorough them all. I think that learning is good for you later in life but I think that we would learn so much more about what we need to is if we actually go out there and do it instead of just doing it on paper.

smoking at the airport illegal?

I read an article in the Denver post called The Denver Post - Advocate targets smoking areas at DIA, this article was about the smoking ban and the exemption in Denver international airport. They now want to eliminate smoking in the entire airport. This matters to me because I fly In and out of D.I.A. a lot due to hockey and my mother is a smoker. If they completely take smoking out then the people who smoke will not have any place to smoke except for outside and once in the terminal it is very hard to get outside. Some people think that smoking calms them down and if they need to smoke to calm themselves before they get on the plane then I am all for that. This will make the people around them calmer too because people can pick up on those kind of things and if someone needs that then they should be able to get what they need. This also goes into the civil rights category because people think that they should be able to do what they want such as smoke where they want. And if restaurants want there to be smoking in their facility then they should because they are the ones who run the establishment.

Rockies Fans

I read the article in the Denver post by the Denver post entitled Rockies fans accused of jumping on police car. It was about 3 men who jumped on a police car and did about 3500 dollars worth in damages. This made me feel that sports are too much of some people’s lives and they need to step back and look at what they are doing because of their team doing something amazing. Their team does something good and productive and they feel the need to go out and destroy something. It doesn’t make any sense and I don’t think that this would make any sense to any one else. The men could go to jail for six years of convicted witch I think is a long time for something like this but they shouldn’t get off for free. I think that instead of having them go to jail they should have community service, fines, and be put on probation.

Did You Know

I watched the movie that Mr. Fisch made called Did You Know on the Fischbowl it was about the physical education courses being cut down in many schools around the country. It also brought up the fact that since this has started more and more kids are becoming diabetic and obese. This made me think of all of the kids who are getting obese and how people blame the schools when they don’t realize that the parents are the ones to blame because they are the ones that are letting their children sit at home playing video games and watching TV. The parents are the ones who don’t make their kids get the exercise they need to be healthy. They think that it is the schools responsibility to give their children the exercise they need and the school shouldn’t have to waste money on things that aren’t educational. People also blame the video games, TV and food too when it really is only the people who let this happen who are to blame.

Witness Intimidation

I read an article by Mike McPhee of the Denver Post titled lawyer arrested on witness intimidation charge. This article was about a defense lawyer who was arrested for intimidating a 16 year old witness. This really made me wonder about the people who people look up to. If we think that these people are upstanding citizens but they pull this kind of stuff then who can children really trust. It also brings up the question of how many other people has this happened to that never let anyone know because they were afraid of what might happen if they told. If this happened to me I wouldn’t know what to do so I ask you put yourself in the shoes of that 16 year old girl and think about what you would do.

The article written by Karl Fisch titled two steps forward… was a very interesting topic and important addition to our school. The article was about the new wireless network put into the school last summer. The system would allow any wireless device capable of accessing the internet use the schools internet. This means that the students who own laptop computers, handhelds and other internet capable devices can access the internet. This will be very helpful to the students. If you have ever needed to go to the library to work on a computer it is nearly impossible to find a free computer. This will help both students with and without the wireless devices. It will help the students who don’t own the devices to be able to find a computer more easily. The students who own the devices will also be able to use the computer when they need and they will have the freedom to use the computer almost anywhere on the campus. This does have downsides though such as there is no access available to students for Google video or youtube.

My other article was from the fischbowl called speaking from the soul. The article was about how people are afraid of voicing their opinion or their work because they are scared of how it will be accepted. I thought that this was a very common issue I think that it is a bad this that people are afraid of showing their work., I think that instead of having the media or other people criticize the work if they don’t like it give suggestions or don’t say anything at all. There will be nothing that people can do about being nervous of showing their work besides just practicing showing it. This was a very odd thing because in the article it talked about a teacher who actually was brave enough to tell everyone that she was afraid of posting her work. I used to be terrified of going up to present but ever since I have gotten older and had more practice in school and hockey it doesn’t bother me anymore.
I read the article in the Denver post about a man who was convicted for a second degree murder charge. He later escaped and has been out for 32 years; he was caught just last week. This article made me wonder about how secure the prisons really are; if it takes the authorities this long to find someone what are they really doing with the money we pay them through taxes. This also brings up the issue of putting people who are really innocent in jail and letting the people who are really guilty stay out and commit other possibly more serious crimes. This article made me really wonder how the judicial system has gotten so messed up. This affects me more than probably anyone in the class because my dad is facing having to have work release for something that happened in a hockey game and easily could have been avoided by the player wearing a 20 dollar face mask. This makes me mad because the authorities should be spending more time finding people who they know are guilty instead of convicting more people who might not be guilty. This also reminds me of the story to kill a mocking bird because like in the book the authorities are worrying about something that may be a lie when something more serious is actually happening. education blog

I read the blog about technologically illiterate teachers on the fischbowl. I think that in this day and age if you don’t know how to work a computer you shouldn’t think that it is cute and you shouldn’t get special privileges. If you don’t know how to you are way behind and won’t be able to function any were as well as others around you with that skill. I also think that pretty soon you will hardly even have to write because everything will be done on the computer. If you don’t know how to type, or do basic things on a computer you really should because it is just a waste of time in class if you need the students to tell you how to do you job and it makes you look and feel stupid.

news blog

I read about the shooting at cherry creek high school by the Denver post. And I think that it is not dangerous to any of the students there because they were fired at night when no one was there. I also think that the situation was blown way out of proportion because the articles title makes you think that someone shot a student when that wasn’t the case. I think that the police should investigate the crime and take the person to court and se what happens from there.
